Kelp crabs are found in the intertidal and shallow subtidal and have a distinctive carapace shape and very close set eyes. They range in color depending on life stage and substrate from dark brown to light olive green. As their name would suggest, they feed primarily on brown algae. The Northern kelp crab can be distinguished from other Pugettia species by its larger size and closer set eyes. (Oregon Estuarine Invertebrates)
