These sculpins are usually dark with smooth skin and pronounced lips that sometimes have a rosy color. They are missing pelvic fins and have a well rounded caudal fin. They are typically found at depths less than 10 m. Rosylip sculpins are lie-in-wait predators. (Lamb & Edgell 1986, fishbase)
